File Storage
| This settings page is only available to domain administrators. |
File storage lets users share files as links instead of attaching them to messages. A link keeps large files out of the mail spool and out of recipients' mailboxes, gets around attachment size limits, and lets the sender control access with permissions, a password or an expiration date. Users can store files on the mail server with SmarterMail File Storage, or connect their own accounts with cloud storage providers. The File Storage page is where you choose which of these your users can use. To open it, click Domain Settings, then File Storage.
When at least one file storage provider is enabled, users see a File Storage page in their own Settings, where they connect their cloud storage accounts.
Available Providers
Each provider has its own card with a description and an Enable switch:
- SmarterMail File Storage - Stores files on the mail server itself. Users upload files to the File Storage area of webmail and share them as links, with optional password protection and expiration dates. Files stored this way count toward each user's disk space. It's also required for some other features: files shared in online meetings are kept in File Storage, and OnlyOffice and Collabora Online edit the files stored there. For details, see File Storage.
- Dropbox - Lets users connect their Dropbox accounts.
- Google Drive - Lets users connect their Google Drive accounts.
- leitzcloud - Lets users connect their leitzcloud accounts. leitzcloud is a business cloud storage service from vBoxx.
- OneDrive - Lets users connect their Microsoft OneDrive accounts.
- ownCloud - Lets users connect to an ownCloud server, such as one your organization hosts.
- vBoxx - Lets users connect their vBoxx accounts.
Users connect a cloud storage account by signing in to that provider from their File Storage settings page, so there are no account details to enter here. Once connected, the provider's files appear in the user's File Storage area, and users can insert links to those files while composing a message.
