Chat Providers
The Chat Providers page shows the chat services your domain administrator has enabled for you, and it's where you connect your Rocket.Chat account if your organization uses Rocket.Chat. To open it, click Settings, then Chat Providers. The page only appears when at least one chat provider is enabled for your domain.
SmarterMail Chat
| This feature is only available in SmarterMail Enterprise. |
SmarterMail Chat is SmarterMail's built-in chat, with text, voice and video chat between people on your domain. It has no settings to change here: when your domain administrator enables it, chat is available from the top menu of webmail. For how to use it, see SmarterMail Chat.
Rocket.Chat
Rocket.Chat is a team chat platform your organization runs on its own server. Once you connect your Rocket.Chat account, new chat messages appear as notifications in the lower right corner of webmail, and clicking one opens Rocket.Chat in a new browser tab.
The Rocket.Chat card has the following settings:
- Enable - Turns the Rocket.Chat connection on or off for your account.
- Rocket.Chat Server Url - The address of your organization's Rocket.Chat server, for example https://rocketchat.example.com. If you're not sure what it is, ask your administrator.
- Rocket.Chat User Id - Your Rocket.Chat user ID. Rocket.Chat shows it alongside your personal access token when you create one.
- Personal Access Token - A token you create in Rocket.Chat that lets SmarterMail connect to your account without your password.
- Test Connection - Checks that SmarterMail can connect to Rocket.Chat with the details you entered.
Creating a Personal Access Token
- Sign in to your Rocket.Chat workspace with the credentials your administrator gave you. If two-factor authentication is turned on, enter the code Rocket.Chat sends you and click Verify.
- Click your avatar in the top right corner, choose Preferences, then choose Personal Access Tokens.
- Enter a name for the token, such as SmarterMail, and click Add. Enter your Rocket.Chat password if you're asked for it, and the verification code if Rocket.Chat emails you one.
- Rocket.Chat shows your new token and your user ID. Copy both and keep them somewhere safe. Rocket.Chat won't show the token again.
Connecting Rocket.Chat to SmarterMail
- In SmarterMail, click Settings, then Chat Providers.
- On the Rocket.Chat card, turn on Enable.
- Enter the server address, your user ID and your personal access token.
- Click Test Connection. If the test fails, check the details and try again.
- Click Save.
