Searching Contacts

If you have a large number of people in your contacts list, finding a specific contact can become increasingly difficult. Fortunately, SmarterMail's search tool allows users to find contacts quickly and easily.

To search, type your search criteria in the search bar located near the top of your contact list, then click the magnifying glass or press Enter on your keyboard. Results replace the current list in the same content pane — the folders list on the left is untouched, so you can tell at a glance which folder(s) you're searching.

Contact search checks far more than just a contact's name. Behind the scenes, SmarterMail matches your search text against nearly every field on a contact, including Display Name, First/Middle/Last Name, Nickname, Job Title, Company (plus Department and Office), email addresses, phone numbers, IM handle, notes, home page, spouse and assistant/manager names, and the street, city, state, and zip on both the home and work addresses. That means a search for "Chicago" could turn up a contact because that's their city, not because it's anywhere in their name, and a search for a phone number's last four digits works just as well as searching by name.
